PIPAC surgery, or Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy, is a minimally invasive laparoscopic procedure that delivers chemotherapy as a high-pressure aerosol directly into the abdominal cavity to treat peritoneal metastases from cancers like ovarian, stomach, pancreas, and colorectal cancer. This technique improves chemotherapy distribution and deeper tissue penetration while using lower doses, leading to fewer systemic side effects compared to traditional chemotherapy. The procedure is typically performed on an outpatient or daycare basis with a short hospital stay and can be repeated every 6-8 weeks for palliative care or to shrink tumors for subsequent treatments.
